Obituary of Ray Martz

Ray W. Martz, 92, of Vowinckel passed away Friday, September 28, 2018 at Snyder Memorial Nursing Home.
He was born June 12, 1926 in Glencoe, PA, to the late Alvey C. Martz and Edna M. Howsare Martz. On September 29, 1947, he married the late Ruth Ella Werner, who passed away March 24, 2018, they happily celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary together in Heaven.
He retired as the regional superintendent of State Parks, Region 2. He worked in many State Parks during his employment which included: Cook Forest, Laurel Hill, Black Moshannon, Moraine and Prince Gallitzin State Parks. Ray took part in designing some trails in the State Parks that are still used today.
Ray also was in the Army Air Corp in his younger days. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, Rebecca's Lodge, Clarion River Long Beards Turkey Club, and organized a Euchre Card Club for years. He enjoyed wood working (especially furniture), hunting, fishing, gardening, writing and poetry, and the baseball, his favorite team being the Pittsburgh Pirates.
He is survived by his children: Earl Martz, of Vowinckel, PA, Ella Spiri and husband Bill, of Madison, OH, Bob Martz and wife Barb, of Butler, PA, and Becky Hollis and husband Bill, of Vowinckel, PA; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; siblings: Betty Futula, of Marienville, PA and Alvey Martz Jr., of Columbus, GA; and daughter in law, Vicki Moore, of Richardson, TX.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Martz, an infant daughter who passed in childbirth, daughter in law Pat Martz, siblings Thurman Martz, Vernon Howsare, and Alma Bahr.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, October 1, 2018, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Borland-Ensminger Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper, PA. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 66 on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 2:00p.m. On Tuesday, October 2, 2018 there will be visitation from 10:00am to 11:00am prior to the funeral service at 11:00am with Pastor Randy Evans, of the Clarion-Forest VNA, officiating. Burial will take place at Mt Olivet in Glencoe, PA at the convenience of the family.
