Obituary of James H. Wolbert

James H. (Jay) Wolbert, Jr., 72, of Leeper, died suddenly Sunday afternoon, November 22, 2015, at his home. Born March 23, 1943 in Brookville, he was the son of the late James H., Sr. and Florence M. Schill Wolbert. He married the former Ruth Ann Ochs on October 17, 1964 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Crown and she survives, Jay served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 - 1965 and received the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. He retired as a teacher from Clarion Limestone High School in 2003, where he taught History, Driver's Education and Psychology and served as the Athletic Director. He also retired in 2003 as a Ranger at Cook Forest State Park. Jay was a member of St. Mary Church in Crown. He was a distinguished life time member of the Farmington Township Volunteer Fire Department, served on the Easter Sunrise Committee and was a founding member of the Farmington Township Ambulance Service. He enjoyed reading, puzzles, NASCAR, bowling, playing cards and attending his grandsons' ball games. He also loved mowing numerous yards in Leeper and weed-whacking the railroad tracks. In addition to his wife, Jay is survived by 3 daughters: Jayanne Stahlman and her husband, Michael of Shippenville; Sheila Martz and her husband Keith of Shippenville and Jill Smail and her husband, Jack of Leeper. He is also survived by a sister, Eleanor Aaron and her husband, David of Clarion. He is survived by 4 grandchildren: Rebekah Baisch, Keleigh Sopher, Gabriel and Andrew Martz. Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, November 24, from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 at the Borland Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church in Crown with Rev. Christopher Barnes, pastor, as Celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Charitable Deeds, 98 Hickory Nut Lane, Knox, PA 16232.
