Jen & family - so sorry to hear of your father's passing. I know what it's like to lose a parent at such a young age. My mom was 52 when she died and I miss her every day. I know you feel cheated of time, but we don't know why things happen the way they do. He must have been a wonderful person if he was anything like you! I'm sure he was so proud of all of his kids. To the Dausch families – our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Gene. It is with such sweet memories that I read of his gentle kindness over the years as expressed by many. Gene was an everlasting friend for decades; and while our paths had gone off in different directions, we could always pick up wherever we were. Paul had told me of his illness last year, though I hadn’t truly understood the gravity and am so saddened by the loss. I was an employee at Kirks Menswear for 4 years from 1983-1987. I wanted to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of my beloved boss and friend, Gene! He was extraordinary man and I loved his vibrant personality! To his beloved wife, Connie and stepdaughters...I am so sorry for your loss! I only had the pleasure of meeting you a few times but I know you were at the depth of his heart! To Jennifer, Gehran, Zachary, and Laura Kate...my heartfelt condolences in the loss of your father! You were his pride and joy! He had a amusing story every day at work to tell about something one of his children had done! He enjoyed and treasured you all so much! I remember when you all came to the store and were scattered throughout it...he would do one of his famous whistles and you all would come and stand beside him because you all knew it was time to leave the store! One of you was usually on his shoulders. What a rare gift you were given to have this extraordinary man for a father....who loved you so deeply! My heart goes out to you in this time of loss! I planned to come to the celebration of his life this morning, but was unable to make due to the fact that I was not feeling well. I have very fond memories of stopping in Wear Else to just say hello. I always ended up buying something. He had a smile that would stay with me all day. I only knew him as the "Wear Else guy", but more than that, I knew him as a kind person with a genuine smile. He always offered our mission committee discounts at Christmas time on anything purchased for the less fortunate....I always wondered what happened to him and why the store closed.....so sad to read about his devastating illness....now he has met his Jesus and knows the full glory of God....no more suffering. Gene was one of my favorite people. I spent so much time at his house over the years with Jen and a lot of other friends. Their home was always fun and welcoming to so many kids, and Gene was a wonderful dad to all of us. I remember a few of us running down the road to make Jen's curfew one evening, while he was standing in the road to make sure we were safe (and on time)! He was an amazing father and person, and if you were his friend, it was for life...no matter what. I will miss his smile and enthusiasm for life. The whole world could take a lesson from Gene on how to treat people. He will be missed.

Although we didn't know Gene personally, we often visited Wear Else? with our two kids when they were growing up. Wear Else? had "cool" clothes and excellent tux rentals when proms came around. He always, always made you feel welcomed, never pressured, and you could just feel his warm & considerate nature. His obituary was obviously written with great love honoring Gene's excellent sense of humor and genuine friendliness. Your store and presence are missed here in Clarion. God speed, Gene.

When I think of favorite people Gene is definitely at or near the top of my list. As an employee and eventual friend of Gene's since 1983/84, he was one of the most generous, kind, smart and funny people that I have ever met. Some of the lessons on how to treat and serve others that I follow to this day were learned from Gene. And to this day, my favorite work experiences were there with Gene (and Ellen and Anita and others).
