Obituary of Thomas A. Carroll

Thomas A. Carroll, 79, of Lucinda, died Friday afternoon, June 20, 2014 at Brookville Hospital, with his family by his side. Born November 7, 1934, in Lucinda, he was the son of the late Augustine E. and Elizabeth (Hoover) Carroll.
He was married October 21, 1961, to Marjorie L. Bauer and she preceded him in death March 25, 2011.
He graduated from St. Joseph High School in Lucinda in 1953 and then proudly served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1959. Afterward, he was a Morse code telegraph operator for the B & O Railroad and then retired from Ochs Lumber Company with over 30 years of dedicated service, mostly as a log truck driver.
Thomas was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lucinda his entire life. He was a member of the Knights of St. George and volunteered for many years for various activities.
He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates and Rush Limbaugh. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time in the woods.
He was married for 49 years and tirelessly devoted his time and energy to his family. He especially liked spending time with his grandchildren. Thomas was loved by his family and will be remembered for his work ethic, strong faith and sage advice. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Thomas is survived by five children: Lorie Bauer and her husband, Brad of Kennerdell; Greta Lutz and her husband, Floyd of Seneca; Andrew Carroll and his wife, Kelly of Pittsburgh; Tina Bauer and her husband, Andrew J. of Lucinda and Joseph Carroll and his wife, Julie of Lucinda. He is also survived by a brother, Eugene Carroll of Clarion and a sister, Veronica Gatesman and her husband, Stephen of Lucinda. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Rachel, Rebecca and William Jones; Sarah and Evan Lutz; Andrew, Jr. and Magdalene Carroll and Reed Bauer.
In addition to his parents and wife, Thomas was preceded in death by a grandson, Aiden Carroll and three sisters, Rita Ochs, Marian Hartle and Elizabeth Ochs.
Friends and family will be received from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. on Monday, June 23, at the Borland Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Joseph Church in Lucinda, with Rev. Joseph Czarkowski, church pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
