Hazel Gertrude Glenn, 92, of Marienville, died Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Snyder Memorial in Marienville after a short illness. Born November 11, 1921 in Emlenton, she was the daughter of the late Bertram J. & Blanche Reedy Wetzel. She was adopted by the late William and Anna Gregory Knapp in 1926.
Hazel married Arthur L. Glenn on April 19, 1941 at St. Mary's Rectory in Crown and he preceded her in death on August 30, 2002.
Hazel graduated from East Forest High School in 1938. She was a member of St. Mary Church in Crown. She was a charter member of Catholic Daughters of America, Court Francis Maher and a charter member of Marienville Civic Association. Hazel served as a Jenks township auditor for eleven years and was a correspondent for the Oil City Derrick and the Brookville Jeffersonian Democrat for many years, having covered the many snowmobile races which were held in Marienville during the 1970's.
Hazel lived in Marienville and surrounding areas most of her life. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Hazel is survived by 3 sons and 3 daughters: William A. Glenn and his wife, Carol of Sebring, FL, Thomas L. Glenn and his wife, Barbara of Largo, FL, Alan R. Glenn and his wife, Kathryn of El Paso Texas, Janice Reid and her husband, Gerald of Slippery Rock, Kay Hogue and her husband, William of Pulaski, PA and Beverly Brooks and her husband, John of Fryburg. She is also survived by a son-in-law, James Zinn of New Castle. In addition she is survived by 17 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
In addition to her natural and adoptive parents, and husband, Hazel was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Zinn, a brother, Dale Wetzel, a granddaughter, Eileen Brooks and a grandson, Wayne Reed.
Friends and family may call on Tuesday, February 18, from 2-4 & 6-8 at the Borland Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary Church in Crown with Rev. Gregory Passauer, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Ann's Cemetery in Marienville.
The family suggests memorial donations may be sent to Marienville and Tionesta Libraries and fire departments.
