Obituary of Francis M. Guth

Francis M. (Mike) Guth 89, of Leeper, died Wednesday evening January 1, 2014 at Golden Living Center Shippenville. Born May 11, 1924, in Venus, he was the son of the late Edmund and Esther Licht Guth.
He was married to the former Rose Marie Bauer on October 17, 1964 at St. Joseph Church in Lucinda and she survives.
Mr. Guth served in the U.S. Navy during WWII receiving the Victory, American Campaign and Asiatic-Pacific Medals. Mr. Guth was a waist gunner on the following ships, USS Woodson, SS West Texas, SS Mission De Pala and the SS Marine Panther. He worked in the Bradford Oil Fields before the war. He first drove truck for Motter & Guth Trucking in Marble, Pa. Then, he spent 20 years driving for Harold Siegel Coal Company in Frills Corners, Pa. He retired in 1994 at the age of 70 from Burns Farms Trucking Company in Sligo, Pa.
Mike was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Crown. He enjoyed hunting and horseback riding.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Guth is survived by a son William Guth of Clarion, a son Terry Guth and his wife, Teresa of New Wilmington, daughter Trudy Griebel and her husband Richard of Lucinda, son Benedict Guth of Leeper and son Allen Guth and his wife, Karen of Lickingville. He is also survived by a sister Marian Bronakowski and her husband, Edward of Erie. Four grandchildren survive, Ashten and Garret Guth of New Wilmington and Kaitlyn and Brady Guth of Lickingville.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Guth was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Vincent, Walter, Jim, Paul, Loren and Ralph Guth. He was also preceded in death by 3 sisters, Evelyn Bennet, Dorothy Striker and Janet Chipley.
Friends and family may call from 2-4 & 6-8 on Friday, January 3, 2014 at the Borland Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 4, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church in Crown with Rev. Gregory Passauer, pastor as celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
