Obituary of Vivian C. Newcomer

Vivian Corinne Newcomer, 84, of Vowinckel, formerly of Oil City, passed away Wednesday morning, November 20, 2013 at Brookville Hospital after an extended illness.
Born September 14, 1929, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Carl N. and Catherine Jenkins Zewe. Vivian was married May 14, 1958 to Floyd R. (Dick) Newcomer at the Pleasant Unity Methodist Church in Pleasant Unity and he survives.
She was a beloved spouse and mother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and pets, camping at Cook Forest State Park and was an avid stuffed bear collector and interior home decorator. She was a member of the Scottdale Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and the Trinity United Methodist Church of Indiana.
Vivian worked as a Messenger Clerk for Kaufman's in Pittsburgh from 1947 - 1949. From 1949 to 1955 she worked as a Critical Materials Recorder for U.S. Steel Duquesne Works. From 1955 - 1966 she worked as a Group Leader for the Duplicating Department at the main U.S. Steel headquarters in Pittsburgh. From 1984 to 2003, she and her husband, Floyd, owned and operated the Giant Eagle Supermarket of Oil City.
In addition to her husband, Floyd, of Vowinckel, she is survived by two sons: Bryan of Vowinckel and Bradley and his wife, Karen, of Birmingham, Alabama and a granddaughter, Leanne of Birmingham, Alabama.
Also surviving are a sister, Beverly Deaton and her husband, Daniel of Sieverville, Tennessee and nine nieces and a nephew.
A graveside memorial service will be held for family and friends at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25, at the Westmoreland County Memorial Park in West Hempfield. Rev. Olivia Graham from the First United Methodist Church of Greensburg will officiate.
