Obituary of Gerard Daniel Schmader

Gerard Daniel (Dan) Schmader, 66, of Lucinda died Wednesday evening, July 27, 2011 at his residence. Born April 17, 1945 in Clarion he was the son of the late Daniel J. Schmader and Theresa M. Dodson Schmader of New Castle. He was married to the former Aenan M. Ha on July 15, 1967 at St. Anne's Church in South Korea and she survives. Dan served with the U.S. Army. He was a Master Stone Mason. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Lucinda and the Knights of Columbus Council 4216 of St. Joseph Church. He was also a member of the VFW and the Fryburg Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, reading and blacksmithing. In addition to his wife and mother, Dan is survived by 5 children: Joseph G. Schmader and his wife, Anne of Lucinda, Monica A. Makeyenko of Chandler, AZ, Daniel G. Schmader and his wife, Melissa of Lucinda, David G. Schmader of Denver, Colorado and Marie B. Schmader of Charlotte, NC. He is survived by a sister, Rose Mary Cassano and her husband, Albert of New Castle. In addition he is survived by 8 grandchildren; Sadie Schmader, Kaitlyn Schmader, Jacob Makeyenko, Nadia Makeyenko, Ethan Schmader, Areyli Schmader, Grace Schmader and Lindsay Schmader and 3 nephews: John, Christopher, and Damian Cassano. Dan was preceded in death by his father. Friends and family may call on Sunday, July 31, from 2-4 & 7-9 at the Borland Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 1 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lucinda, with Rev. William C. Miller, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lucinda.
