John E. (Jack) Snyder, 73, of Snydersburg, died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, May 21, 2011. Born April 10, 1938 in Snydersburg, he was the son of the late Francis (Dick) and Elva Schmader Snyder.
Mr. Snyder was a member of St. Joseph Church in Lucinda. He attended St. Joseph Schools. He had worked for The Schmader Lumber Co. of Lucinda, and later Siegel Coal Co., Stratten Homes and New Era Building Systems from where he retired in 2004. Mr. Snyder enjoyed fishing, hunting and all sports on T.V. He was a member of the Lucinda Antler Club, a life member of the American Hunting Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Snyder really enjoyed his coffee club at Jerry's Grocery in Lucinda. His favorite sport was baseball. He played baseball for 18 years, starting with Little League and ending in the Hayrake League in 1960. He pitched a perfect game in 1955.
Mr. Snyder was married to the former Willivine Irwin on February 11, 1961 and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Snyder is survived by four children: Cynthia (Cindy) Carbaugh and Brent of Marienville, Denise (DeeDee) Niederriter and her husband, Randy of Lickingville, Brian J. Snyder and his wife, Sherry of Snydersburg and Matthew D. Snyder and his wife, Melissa of Glenshaw. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren:
Allyssha Snyder Houston, Zachary Niederriter, Lacy Niederriter, Matthew D. Snyder, Chelsea Carbaugh, John Snyder, Andrew Snyder and Maeve Snyder. In addition he is survived by 1 brother, Ken Snyder of Snydersburg and four sisters, Ann Osterried of Seneca, PA, Norma Jean Hienrich of Clarion, Margaret (Peg) Bauer of Crown, and Lois Scott of Marienville.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Snyder was preceded in death by four brothers, Gerald (Pete) Snyder, Eugene (Huey) Snyder, Leon Snyder and Bill Snyder and three sisters, Amelda (Med) Griebel, Phyllis Bowen and an infant Frances Casper Snyder.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 on Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Borland Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Joseph Church in Lucinda with Rev. William Miller, pastor, presiding. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or to the Farmington Area Ambulance Service.
