Obituary of Mary Eileen Harriger

Mary Eileen Harriger, 93, of Leeper, passed away early Friday morning, May 6, 2011 at Clarion Hospital, with her family by her side. Born February 20, 1918 in Lewis County, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Willis and Eunice (Kemper) Garrison. She was married to William Paul Harriger on May 28, 1937 and he preceded her in death on May 2, 1978. Mrs. Harriger was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. She was a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Leeper. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, D.A.R, Good Shepherd Church Dorcas Circle and an Honorary Member of the Farmington Township Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She loved flowers, spending time with her family and especially going to Myrtle Beach and picking up seashells. Her Indian name was Seashell Woman. Surviving Mrs. Harriger are 3 daughters: Ann Schmader and her husband, Don of Leeper, Sandy Hyde of Pittsburgh and Linda McMaster and her husband, Dean of Leeper. She is also survived by a brother, Gene Garrison of Kentucky and a sister, Lorna (Hap) Benton of High Point North Carolina. She is survived by 9 grandchildren and their spouses: Brian Schmader and his wife, Jackie, Celeste Malm and her husband, Craig, Brad Schmader and his wife, Pam, Pam Helch and her husband, Tim, Bill (Debo) Hyde and his wife, Leigh, Kim Hyde, Shelly Kansco and her husband, Joe, Brittany McMaster and Brandon McMaster. She is survived by 2 step-grandchildren, Jeff McMaster and his wife, Daneen and Steve McMaster and his wife, Anita. Surviving are the following great-grandchildren and their spouses; Renee Schmader, Nick Schmader, Kent Carroll and his wife, Nikki, Bill Carroll and his wife, Marlie, Bill Malm, Jackie Malm, Emily Malm, Josh Schmader, Justin Schmader, Jeremy Schmader, Kelsey Schmader, T.J. Helch, Kierston Helch, Tyler Helch, Zachery Hyde, Lexie Hyde, Aurora Hyde, Cierra Castelluccio, Blaze Kansco, Leah Kansco and Vaughn Kansco. She is survived by 6 step great- grandchildren, Brooke, Ryley, Alana, Garner, Gannon and Grayden. She is also survived by 2 great, great grandchildren, Grace and Evelyn Carroll and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Harriger was preceded in death by her step-mother, Faye Garrison, a sister, Sue Osborne, a son-in-law Jerry Hyde, and a brother-in-Law, Robert Benton. Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 on Sunday, May 8, at the Borland Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper. Friends may also call from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 9 at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Leeper. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Leeper, with Rev. David Coul, pastor of the church, and also retired minister Arnold Rhodes officiating. Interment will follow at the Scotch Hill Cemetery. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Farmington Area Ambulance Service, Farmington Township Volunteer Fire Department or Scotch Hill Cemetery.
