Obituary of Terry Owen McFarland

Terry Owen McFarland, 61, of Tionesta, died Wednesday morning, February 2, 2011 at Clarion Hospital after a short battle with cancer. Born November 22, 1949 in Kane, he was the son of Bob and Phyllis Jean McCanna McFarland.
Terry and the former Julie C. Mealy were united in marriage on September 29, 1973 at St. Mary Church in Crown, and she survives.
Terry graduated from North Clarion High School in 1967. After high school, he served with the U.S. Air Force for 4 years in Vietnam. He worked at Cytemp Specialty Steel in Titusville for 17 years and at Electralloy in Oil City, until the time of his death. He was a member of the Oil City VFW, the Fryburg Sportsman's Club and co-founder of Allegheny Valley Sportsman's Association, serving as president for several years. He was a hunter safety educator for the Pennsylvania Game Commission for 15 years. Terry was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.
In addition to his mother, Phyllis Jean McFarland of Tionesta and his wife, Terry is survived by 2 sons, Joshua O. McFarland and his wife, Emily of Hagerstown, MD and Jared O. McFarland of Cranberry, PA. He is also survived by 3 brothers and 1 sister, Robert McFarland and his wife, Deb of Erie, Daniel McFarland and his wife, Marcie of Tionesta, Kim McFarland and his wife, Sally of Fredonia, NY and Jeanna Haslett of Tionesta. He is also survived by his triplet grandchildren, Owen, Maren and Lucas McFarland, who he loved dearly. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, Bob McFarland, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Gaylord L. Mealy and his brother-in-law, Gaylord C. Mealy.
Friends and family may call from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 on Friday, February 4, 2011 at the Borland Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the funeral home with Rev. Joseph Czarkowski, pastor of St. Anthony Church in Tionesta, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary Church cemetery in Crown.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Cancer Center at Clarion Hospital.
