Dear Dorothy,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.
We have seven years worth of wonderful memories with you and Jim in Naples. You both became much more then friendly and helpful neighbors. Remember when Ryan asked you to be his adopted grandparents? You two became our family. Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter dinners in each other’s homes, singing Happy Birthday and eating cake, your home made puddings and ice cream cake, blueberry and chocolate muffins and everyone’s favorite- chocolate chip cookies. There was never anything that Jim couldn’t fix for us. The front door, the light switches, the bike locked to the pole. All those Pinewood Derby cars that he carved and cut and sanded, then carefully added the weights. Remember the year we accidently glued the wheels together! Remember the shelves he took apart so the boys could make a bicycle ramp. (He had everything in that attic.) We loved hearing the stories about his time in the service, especially seeing the maps. Remember when he brought out your band photograph! And he told us about his parachute-turned blouse for you. Jim playing ball in your garage with the fan going; he and the boys had such funny names for catching it on the fly or the whirly gigs. Slippers brought us all a lot of laughs. The two of you would come over to visit him after a walk and Jim would get him so tired out that he’d fall asleep on your lap. We always had fun with the two of you and never ran out of things to talk about. Jim always gave such a great hug and a warm smile with those sparkling blue eyes! He was such a hard working, great man. We know he’s now in a better place. May you and your family find peace and comfort in God’s healing love.
Yours Truly,
Bert, Debbie, Sean and Ryan Cleland

Dolly, Scott, Kass and Jim I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Uncle Jim was one of my favorite uncles while growing up. Memories of fishing with him while very young have stayed with me my whole life. One of my other favorite memories was going down to the lake and chopping out ice to make homemade ice cream. Take care. Tom Boyle

Dorothy, Kass & family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time in the loss of your loved one. I was very blessed to have known James for the past year. I especially want to thank you for allowing me to say good-bye to him in the last moments of his life. I shall always cherish that moment and memories. The Lord truly blessed me with very special friends that have crossed my path. Thank you for your concern for my mom and sharing vegetables with her this summer. May the Lord comfort you at this time. James truly will be missed, his smile just made your day!

My heart goes out to Aunt Dolly & the whole family! I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember how proud Uncle Jim was of his collection of fish & what wild & crazy times we would have out on his boat. We were all younger then. He will surely be missed! Love Patty

James Patrick Boyle was hard-headed but soft-hearted, quick-tempered but generous with praise. He was of Irish descent and Democratic beliefs, practical, meticulous, and neat-- his workshop was cleaner than my kitchen!
He turned 18 on the day Pearl Harbor was bombed, so the Army Air Corps took him to serve his country. He flew fourteen missions as a gunner in a B-24. Sometimes he manned the tail, sometimes the nose, duties for which his slight build made him ideal.
Upon discharge from the Army, James returned to Pennsylvania to complete his high school degree and begin life as a civilian. He earned a living as a block operator for the Pennsylvania Railroad, while driving a school bus to bring home extra pay. He married, he built a house, and he raised a family.
Because he lived, I was blessed with a wonderful husband who, in turn, blessed me with two glorious children.
His last days were burdened by the effects of Alzheimer's Disease and a stroke, but he left this world surrounded by family and holding the hand of the woman he married more than 60 years ago. In accordance with the wishes of a man who was private and independent, there are no plans for a public viewing or funeral. But James Patrick Boyle will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, an honor he surely deserved.
I am proud to have been his daughter-in-law for the past 29 years.
Rest in peace.
